The Minnesota Zoo also has a butterfly house, where they keep many species of butterflies.
The second image, on the bottom, shows some butterfly chrysalis pods.

Say! We have those around here! But I haven't been able to catch one being still long enough or close enough to get a picture. Nice one you got there, And the chrysalis pods are interesting. Are they (I don't know the proper term) gestating - with butterflies in them? Or just examples of the various pods on display. While I love living in a small town, there are advantages to being near some place big enough to have a zoo.

Hi gang! To answer your question Ken, those are live chrysalis and will hatch.
emergence to beauty... we sometimes raise them from caterpillars, I find in my garden, so my boys can watch the process... nice photo!
A beautiful butterfly..the blue color is wonderful--this however, is really a yellow monarch,with the disco JEAN wings for saturday nite..everyone enjoys a nice 'dress up'

Pods and butty! Great compo and a really neat macro shot at the top. Poor thing is getting a little old but is still a beaut! I am always amazed at how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.

I think the pods look like they might hold aliens...I never knew they looked like that. Thought all of them were like the green ones on the right. Eerie looking contraptions, lol.

Looks like his flying days are just about over with all those wing scales missing, those chrysalis are just plain FREAKY, well the ones on the left & middles, totally Alien looking...great captures cheers
