I agree, very cool stuff Darkglass!

And for you Byrdie, I have a few fur balls playing in the snow that I was working on...  :)

rhol:  love the puppies.  The barns are so cool, old buildings "speak" to me.  I will have to try to do one.  Just finished an eagle that is a scene very much like your raven.

I haven't been doing much Mid-J today too much into a nostalgia thing with my Vinyl collection, letting Lou pick out some stuff she's not familiar with. Like the old Paul McCartney Album "Ram" this morning Al Stewarts "Year of the Cat" this song sent me to the computer for a minute.

Year of the Cat

The Lyrics  "On a morning from a Bogart movie In a country where they turn back time You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre Contemplating a crime" got me this

0gv53JoI1SlJ8ixgoiJJNV7zXKNHd0eqRREfJZNz.jpg

The Lyrics "She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running Like a watercolor in the rain Don't bother asking for explanations She'll just tell you that she came In the year of the cat" got me this...No Cats though

Using the same lyrics as Len, but with no prefex at the end finds a few strange cat's...

'She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running Like a watercolor in the rain Don't bother asking for explanations She'll just tell you that she came In the year of the cat'

fzbk7bjmH4pBKl41zVxgXNZqGArGOMmlVQhHtSCw.png

And when you add something like this at the end of the song...

vivid, high definition, hyper detail, volumetric light from above, photorealistic, stylized, cinematic, 4k octane render, unreal engine --ar 3:2

a0UUyk8MVbk5VD9JnCVoeMFvf9XrY82nDXJ55qE4.png

the cats seem to dissappear...

I spent most of the day auditioning Speakers, Blew one of my Klipch's yesterday think I got it narrowed to a pair of Polk Audio RTA 10s or 12s.

Anyone else see the Thing on the NBC Nightly News about AI Generated Art had an interview with a user and the Founder of Mid-J and the HooHa about is it Art or not and the copyright brewhaha, founder of Mid-J seems to blow it all off and a bunch of Lawyers seem to say there's millions of users of AI not much you can do about it, it's prolly here to stay.

Just watched that NBC clip Len, an interesting interview. I'm sure there will be some give and take, greed and money on both sides eh, that's the human condition. For myself, I'm looking forward to even better results in ai, it's the best way so far to reproduce the image in my mind's eye. I just do this for myself anyway and I'm having a blast, so don't care what the naysayers say...   ;)

Thise paper cuts are brill - something I haven't got around to trying out yet.

Dragons - I did  loads back in the day using the DAZ dragon but lets face it, they were ok at the time, but really nothing like what MJ can do.

Re the art-not art-art theft-whittering, a couple of days ago I posted some fun pics in a greyhound group on FB.  Greyts in the kitchen, primarily making toast (they don't have stomachs, they have toast receptors!!).  Went down really well, everyone loved them and commented.  Except for one.  There HAS to be one.  He replied to someone asking about prints being available saying "it's AI - don't buy it" kinda spoutoff.  I ignored him and told her no, they're low res and it was just a bit of fun.  So he carries on again after I ignored him saying it was theft and was wrong to be made money on.  I told him to get his facts straight before spouting off but he was having none of it.  In the end, I've blocked him.   Then I made a few more and made a free 12-pack desktop wallpaper set for all in the group who wanted them.  That went down well too.   I can only hope that one numpty has a flea infestation in a very dark place hahaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Pretty much the way I feel too, didn't start this Art thing some 20 years ago to become rich or famous it's just fun for me when it stops being fun I'll walk away. Before I I will let  anyone dictate to me what I can use what I can do with this Art thing I'll walk away and start pulling wrenches and slinging paint on Harleys again I was always better at that than anything else anyway I'm still just a Hobbyist at Art.

considering the sheer amount of uncredited outright stolen images shared on Facebook and other social media as "memes" etc anyone calling you out for using ai can STFU.

I understand in a professional capacity it's use being restricted, at least until the legal stuff like copyrights are worked out but using it just for fun people need to stop gatekeeping.

so is most fine art and almost certainly all cottage arts and crafts as done by the unwashed masses

we don't live in a vacuum

one cannot draw fan art at all without referencing the original

the masters of the past blatantly copied each other, historically copyright is a fairly recent thing

ai is only a threat because it is considerably better at it

well i didn't write the article, just read it....maybe you should ask the author, seems to have all the answers....

Byrdie ( ) posted Fri, 20 January 2023 at 1:47 PM

The point they're making -- trying to make but maybe badly expressed? -- is that IF these lawsuits against AI developers like Stable Diffusion, MidJourney, et. al is successful and the technology is ruled derivative/copyright violating unless licensed by Big Content then ONLY  Big Content will be able to use it fully. Sites like Wombo & MJ will be so restricted, censored and crippled as to be useless except as cash cows for those who hold all the model licenses.  The jobs and rights people think they're protecting with these anti-AI lawsuits and protests will end up being lost, not because of Jane & John Doe making waifu renders in the style of Some Famous Artist and posting them on Art Station or selling prints on Etsy/Wherever, but because studios run by House Of Mouse, etc. will be using their own perfected AI systems for darn near everything because (A) faster and (B) cheaper. Big profits to be had and to heck with fair use/fair dealing and the public domain.

That's my take on it, no doubt there are other articles out there -- written by actual human beings who know what they're talking about -- that can explain it much better.

Darkglass ( ) posted Fri, 20 January 2023 at 2:13 PM · edited Fri, 20 January 2023 at 2:15 PM

one way to look at it... House Of Mouse/ Disney, could control the AI market...if licensed by a controlling party, or whoever holds the model licenses, .....if this becomes the case, you will have no Stable Diffusion, MidJourney...it will be to restricted, censored and crippled to be any use like you said, or it will just in house production and concepts
