Subject: FX lighting question

DocMatter ( ) posted Sat, 16 January 2010 at 11:23 AM · edited Sun, 25 January 2026 at 10:50 AM

I'm trying to create an effect in C7 Pro where I tight beam of light (or a tube of light) passes over and around a person lighting up the person in the light over a narrow region as it passes.
I've tried using the tube light... can't get what I want.
I've tried using a torus prop and then using Anything Glows... nothing there either.  I can't get the light to just light a narrow region of the person.  I set it light only the person, played with the range and range falloff settings, but still no go.
It would be helpful if I could see what the orientation of the shape lights are in the scene, but they all look like bulbs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just create a spline object and then make an almost transparent shader of the correct color and glow channel, then use an anything glows and an aura.  It works great and is a lot easier to deal with than light tubes.

Where do you get an aura?  There's no effect for it with Anything Glows.  Is it another lighting object I'm unfamiliar with?

Your requirement seems to need a narrowed beam on  a Spotlight with a Light Cone Effect.

For an object, Aura is also listed under the Effects Tab.

It goes without saying that all is well documented in the Help manual.
