Since the cr2 file can be edited in a text editor I actually tried to remove the references to the pmd but that didn't make any difference. And I guess this is more of a Poser question than of Carrara, but you wouldn't happen to know how to save a figure (cr2) without creating a pmd?
What Poser version are you using to rig the pants and save the CR2 file?
I like to create CR2 files with other software like ones sold here at Renderosity or new tools in Daz Studio.

I'm using Poser Pro (version 7.2 that is, I think).
But are you saying there is a tool to rig in Daz Studio???!? The simple reason to why I'm using Poser is beacuse there hasn't been any reasonable alternative to rig characters before. Daz Studio was what got my interest in 3D art started, so that has been my main 3D application until I got into modelling. I'd prefer to work in Daz Studio over Poser any day of the week, twice on a sunday. Poser is just a nessecary evil application to rig clothes, but not anymore?
If that is the case I will happily invite some friends over for some beer and popcorn while we watch Poser uninstall.
Hahaha... I also have Poser to create cloths and other things. I dindt use it to much but created some CR2 files with daz Studio tools:

This is the most simple tool for DS, theres other more expensives with more options.

Well folks, something that didn't strike me until now was to try my pants out in DAZ Studio. In spite of my glorifying words about the app I rarely use it nowadays in favor of Carrara. And everything works just fine with the textures in Studio. So, all is well with my pants in both Poser and DAZ Studio but not in Carrara. We got a Carrara problem then, eh?
To sum it up, the mesh behaves in Carrara as if it wasn't UV mapped. That is, I can change colors in the shaders but not use any textures.
This must be a bug in the Poser content import process. Or simply some kind of memory issue in Carrara. My figure works in both Poser and DAZ Studio but then again, Carrara is not primarily built to handle Poser content. It would just be interesting to send my figure to DAZ and see if they could figure out what's wrong. But I'm afraid they don't have that kind of support.

Running Carrara 7...
I have the weirdest problem. I'm creating some Poser content and want to do some test rendering in Carrara. First I made a pair of pants for Vicky and rigged them with bones in Poser. I then added the pants to my Carrara scene (pants being a posable figure now). Everything looks absolutely swell, the textures come out just perfect and everything.
Then I head back to Poser and add some morphs to my pants, thus creating a new character file (.cr2) and a new morph file (.pmd). I add the new version to my Carrara scene. But now it just seems like my model isn't UV mapped anymore. The default render behaviour in Carrara when you add texture to a non UV mapped model is to show some sort of base color of the texture file. And this is exactly what happens.
And this weirds me out, both figures uses the exact same .obj file. And from what I know the UV maps are stored in the .obj files and nowhere else. To sum it up, this is what happens...
pants1.cr2 + pants1.pmd + **pants.obj **= Working textures and UV maps
pants2.cr2 + pants2.pmd + pants.obj = UV map doesnt work
The UV maps are intact when I import pants.obj as mesh to the scene so there can't really be anything wrong with the model. This problem only occurs when I add them as Poser content to the scene. And the funny thing is that I can have both pants1 and pants2 in the scene at the same time, the textures work on the first one but still not on the second. And they're using the same pants.obj file.
Exactly what is going on here? What am I doing wrong?
