Like with most worthwhile endeavors, it started with a simple question, "Is it possible to import Genesis 3 into Poser?" The main stumbling block was Genesis 3's facial ghost bones. Poser 10 and/or Poser Pro 2014 cannot handle the necessary weight mapping.

When I saw Poser 11's new feature for Smooth Translation weight mapping, I knew instantly it would allow Genesis 3 to be fully functional in Poser. We would, however, have to do it ourselves since DAZ has no interest.

It was not an easy task. I had to take a crash course in rigging to learn how the Smooth Translation works and how it would apply to Genesis 3. I cannot count the hours I was in front of my computer digging into Genesis 3's structure or copying and pasting weight maps. I let out a sigh of relief when I had my prototype working in Poser. However, I ran into a scaling issue. That's when I made my best and worst decision - I posted my findings on two sites and asked for help.

I shook my head in despair at the amount of anger and bitterness that poured out. The name calling got so bad that the admins had to lock the thread at one site within two days and the admins at the other site had to admonish the users twice. People walked away with hurt feelings and I was left with virtually no new information. I tried a few things but, with no real way to automate the importing process, I simply gave up. That's when the post turned out to be the good idea.

lululee had contacted a vendor that makes Poser and Daz Studio utilities. He confirmed my observations. We worked together on a tool, but he had his own projects to work on. I took an old Poser file editor tool that I started four years ago but had never finished. I used it as a starting point and created the "Genesis3PoserUpdater" tool. lululee was very kind to test it. The words "thank you" seem insufficient for how much work she had put into the project. She was the one who helped me when I was down. She was the one who coordinated the release. She was a delight to work with and one of the highlights of this project.

I have always enjoyed working with DAZ characters in Poser and I was especially interested in rendering Genesis 3 in Poser. I also enjoy working in DAZ Studio and feel the IRAY render is gorgeous but I missed having that freedom of choice to render Genesis 3 in both software. Each one is unique and has it's own render look.

I saw a thread in a forum by willdial. He was successful in bringing Genesis 3 into Poser 11 but her expression morphs would not work. He figured out a way to get them to work and was interested in having someone help him create an app that would be a 1 click solution. I contacted him to encourage him to keep going with the project because I really wanted to play with Genesis3 in Poser 11.

In the end, willdial created the app himself. I helped with the tutorials and organizing.

One thing that really drew me to the project was willdial's desire to make the app easy to use and freely distribute it to the community. Poser users were very interested in working with Genesis 3 who is quite beautiful. willdial was not interested in the project as a monetary project, rather a community effort to unite both software applications for the artists. Today, artists like working in both Daz Studio and Poser. They are very compatible software and actually compliment each other. We all wanted to be able to render Genesis 3 in both so it a real gift to the community to have the "Genesis3PoserUpdater".Now we can render Genesis 3 in both Poser and DazStudio. We're free to have our artistic freedom and choose the software to render her in. There has always been a special connection between Daz models and Poser Software. It is good to continue that connection.

We are very pleased that the admins at Renderosity chose to help us and launch the "Genesis3PoserUpdater". Thanks so much Jenn and Kristi.

Jenn and Kristi would also like to thank the Testing Team here at Renderosity for their help in this project.
