Papilio machaon
It had been a long time since I had seen this butterfly! In this picture, he is above me, hanging on the flower he is foraging. Photo taken in my garden, the flower is a butterfly-bush (Buddleja davidii)

Looks like you had to lie down on the ground to get this super capture, J_C :) I rarely see any butterflies here in my neighborhood--not even in the park 1 block from my home (it is filled with flowering plants) ...in fact, I rarely see any insects--no bees, no ants, nothing than an occasional black fly.. I wonder what the birds eat..very scary...hope you are staying cool...

Magnifique photo, mon ami! Dans mon jardin, j'ai placé une petite assiette avec une pierre pour que les oiseaux et les papillons puissent étancher leur soif pendant la canicule, surtout quand il n'y a pas de rosée sur les brins d'herbe le matin !
(In my garden I have placed a small plate with a stone so that the birds and butterflies can quench their thirst during the heat wave, especially when there is no dew on the blades of grass in the morning!)

Une magnifique photo, et presque un témoignage du passé, quand on sait que ce papillon, très visible et connu de tous il y a quelques années, est aujourd'hui très difficile à voir, comme tant d'autres espèces décimées par les pesticides. L'angle de vue donne toute sa majesté à ce machaon. Superbe photo, Jean-Claude !
