Description

http://www.constellation.org/ More at the above link that I can narrate. However, to not say anything would be extremely out of character! So . . . When I first arrived in town, they were trying to pawn this vessel off as the original frigate CONSTELLATION which was built in town at Fells Point. Actually, it's a fabrication that goes back to beyond the Civil War. The original frigate was worn out, and the Navy wanted to replace it. Congress said 'No.' However, funds were available for another rebuild. Thus the frigate was rebuilded from scratch and the Navy got this sloop. What's the difference? Plenty. While in the UK, I visited HMS VICTORY and some years later, in Boston, I visited USS CONSTITUTION. They were much alike in strength, but very different in armament. Then we moved to Balamer and I noted that CONSTELLATION was much lighter in build. Something not kosher here. The two frigates were 'supposed' to be near sisters, but one was a heavyweight! The story became clear some years later as the truth unfolded. Anyhow, CONSTELLATION was Atlantic Fleet flagship into the 1950's. The sloop was decommissioned to free the name for a carrier. Definitely worth a visit if in town. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Dear TW, Yeah, quite a difference from the Constitution. And the difference between it and the Victory is much more than just armament. Take a look at how the diagonals on the Constitution were used to keep the hull from hogging. That was the real secret to it ability to carry all those guns. Great shot. I need to stop by for a look sometimes!!! Excellent work!! Love, Meredith - Heed me E-bots, I have not yet begun to fight!!
