Description
Out of Water: Here I am, less than 100 ft to go and I'm out of water. I'm thirsty, my throat is dry and my heart rate is playing the Hawaiian War Chant. I didn't bring enough water because this hike was not suppose to have happen. I have all the hydration packs but I didn't bring it with me. Like erskogly said, "dehydrated". My original plans was to look for an owl at the base of this mountain and not this mountain climb. I'm sorry I failed this hike but I'll be back another day. This trail passes Lake Waiau which I will post tomorrow (taken from a different hike). Aloha and thank you for viewing.

looks like a glacier came through there from the strewn rocks. I do not think the islands never had a glacier so it must be a lava field. go get some water!
Thanks God you are still alive... is it not too much risk for a hike ? Did you carry a GPS device ! So barrren that slope... looks Mercury !
l worry about you.. now a heart beat of a war chant.. oh my.. next time take a camel hehehehe.. you havnt failed just brought something just as beautiful the landscape of this mountian... hugssssss...:)

So close but yet so far....A valiant effort indeed and live for another day. BRAVO!!!!! ;o)
yesitis3...Mauna Kea once was covered with glaciers and some of the terrain shows something big came thru. isacos.....I do not have a gps but am thinking of getting one. The trail was pretty well marked with piled rocks and metal stakes. During snow season, its hard to follow the trail as compared to now.
i wouldn't say you failed, you got some excellent captures, that in itself is a success! love the contrast of the dark patch compared with the light patch! awesome capture! can't wait to see the shots you get when you beat the mountain!!!!
....because it is there!

Oh I can feel how it is! so very close and yet so far! seems to be miles! had this feeling in bavaria but wasn't thirsty, had no breath! the wet part could be your running sweat! ;o)
Well, seems I'm in good company in giving up close to the target.... On the end it gives a double feeling, glad to be back but still hoping to reach the target once.... Wise choice, better return on feet than brought down by (expensive) chopper! Excellent work, Errol!
Very wise to turn back though... this way youll live to try again lol ;o) Wonderful series it was, thanks !!!
Tedz.....regarding your comment "because it is there!" I was just watching National Geographic regarding who climbed Mt Everest First. In 1924 at team of Mallory and Irvine was to climbing Mt Everest. When the were asked why climb Mt Everest? they just said "Because it is there". George Mallory and Andrew Irvine never did return and their faith whether they had made it to the top was not known. There were people after Mallory and Irvine that claimed to have reached the top. An investigating expedition teams years later went out to find evidence on who had climbed Mt Everest First. Tragedy had struck and the teamed turned back. The final chapter of Mallory and Irvine was never determined.
Glad to see you're posting this fantastic image so we know you have made it back safely! :o) Be careful, man!
A valiant effort. Discretions is the better part of valor as you live to hike another day. Nice shot of an oh so near goal. :]
