What was over the horizon: From my last post "Out of Water" , if I had made it over the horizon and followed the trail even further, I would have passed this Lake Waiau. You can also see what it looks like with snow from my past post "Lake Waiau" . Aloha and thank you for viewing.

Yes, it looks like Mars. When I first went up there, 32 years ago, a friend bought a 4wheel drive. We drove down to the lake. Then we couldn't get out again. Luck for us he had a CB radio. We called for help and ended up driving out in reverse. The air/gas ratio really changes at that altitude. Aloha

The lake seems so out of place in the desolate climbs. Quite a contrast with the harsh terrain.
