Description

That is either a ship's whistle or a patron who ate too much leaving. This has been around for .... ages, I guess. I remember it from the mid 70's when I first moved here. Always thought it would be one of those semi-fancy, over-priced, touristo seafood restaurants. Anyhow. . . While driving around, we said: aw heck. Let's try it. We are getting peckish as all heck. Boring! Boring! Boring! Usual hamburgers and other diner-type pastea fare. (With crabs and shrimp dishes.) A tad overpriced, but nothing exotic to hang around for... On to 'Greektown!' The building, however, is not that boring. It's built on a corner, so head-on it looks like a very fat ship coming at you. The intersection is one of those with acute rather than right angles, so it works to some extent. A bit preposterous, but whimsical. It fits the neighborhood. One can have fun here. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Dear TW, there is a hotel in Galveston built the same way. Driving by, I suspect it would provide the same disappointment. The did a great job on the architecture. As the image appeared at the top, until it got down to the restaurant part, I thought you were at the harbor!! Excellent work!! Love, Meredith

My first thought was "Hey, I will come over for having a nice seafood" But after reading your words I think it wasn't a good idea! wink The colourful "ship" looks great though!

Ah yes. A word of caution to visitors from overseas. If you find yourself over here and see a place that advertises 'family' dining... USUALLY a good bet this is a place best avoided. Think Quantity and not Quality. Ditto for 'AYCE' places: all you can eat.
