Excellent specemin captured perfectly. nice one Jock you are a realy good photographer.
That is sure an impressive Tree;
The Duir the celtic name of the oak. It is a tree of enormous strength; you cannot drive a nail into it once its heartwood is aged. Oak forest was the climax of ecological succession in Europe after the Ice Age, giving rise to a host of dependent plant and animal species. The Latin name for the acorn is glans, and the tree,s masculine beauty is often noted. The wood burns long and was preferred for ritual fires at Summer Solstice. Oaks grow very old, with roots as great as the branches. Jock this is a great photo mate...Excellent!!!...:)
