Description

Welcome, friends, to the very tiny town of New Salem, Massachusetts. I will begin with my history involved in this town. When I was only twelve, back in 1964, my mom and grandma decided to look for Salem, MA, home of the witch trials, etc. Mom was not an experienced traveler and certainly not a map reader. We ended up here instead. This town is located on the western edge of the Quabbin Reservoir (see previous postings). When I was living in upstate New York during the 1970's, I had a series of dreams involving this town and each one was a B-grade horror movie in itself. I could never figure out why I had them, but I knew I had to return some day. The 80's came and I was then a single mom with two kids and after the divorce ended up back in Massachusetts living with my mom. My friends and I were always at the Quabbin but we never explored further for surrounding towns. In 1990 I moved to Georgia and bought a home. But in 1993 I had to rent it out, move myself and the kids back up to mom's to take care of grandma who had had a stroke and was bedridden. We were there for three years. In the summer of 1994, I had a dream once more involved New Salem. I decided to explore and discover why I was being requested to return there. I went prepared, taking camera and recorder.

What a grand old place. The trees stand watch over the dead, in their unrestfull sleep!

I like reading other people's comments on your pics too. ... So you took a picture of the graveyard with a face waaay up in the trees. Complete with a large eye and pupil.

I nearly missed the first installment!! I got an e-bot today that you had done an upload so I came running over here and see the title of your newest one had a Part 2 added on to it...so of course I had to see Part 1 before I can go on to the next chapter. Ok...now I am up to snuff and all nice and cozy in my chair at work so I need to read the second chapter...This is awesome!!
