Description
We were down at the dog park this weekend, we call it "Church". When I heard a sonic BOOM, unlike the usual air traffic, there is an airport nearby. I said to my wife, "That's a fighter jet!" she said "How can you tell?" Suddenly I could here it screaming toward us, I swiveled around just in time to see it come right over the tree tops, very low, VERY FAST!!! I had literally a couple seconds to try and capture it in flight, I was having a hell of a time framing it (It's only going 500 miles an hour!!!) But I managed to get a lead on it, and press the button, I believe a prayer was muttered. And as luck would have it, I caught it in flight! I can tell it's an F18 Hornet from the distinctive tail fins, that have a V-like shape (Not readily visible in this shot)
Nothing major, just a lucky/fun shot.
Have a great Tuesday all!!

Amazing dexterity--I'd still be saying where is that camera??--and what a camera you must have that will deblur something going 500 mph..mine would've looked like a bug on a windshield...see there are the distintive splattered wings...anyway good work Eric a nice shot !! thanks !
Talk about Reaction Time!!! Wow! Nice one, there.
Pilot must have gotten hell from his seperior officer: its illegal to break the sound barrier anywhere closer than 500 miles (I believe) from a major city. Other than the V-style Tail fins, the short wigns with the perfect 90 trailing edges are distinctively Hornet Great shot. crop it wround the jet maybe? (no zooming though)
coming back from europe (while in the navy) one of the aircraft carriers put on an airshow in the middle of the atlantic, got to watch about 8 to 12 planes break the barrier at once... man was that awesome... when they do that there is a slight bubble effect that surrounds the plane the instant they break it!!! glad you where able to catch this naval fighter!!! :o)
My grandparants live near a Air National Guard base that flies F-16s and C-130s. I've tried to capture both with mixed results. The fighters move so fast that by the time you have bead on them with your camera they're gone. Good job getting this one!
