Description

The Fletcher class destroyer my Dad served on in World War II. The USS Ross was 376 feet in length was armed with 5 five inch guns for the main battery. At the battle of Leyte Gulf, the Ross hit a mine and was towed away by the fleet tug USS Chickasaw. In a floating dry dock for repairs a kamikaze aircraft hit the aft most five inch gun and plowed into the medical center of the dry dock. The dock workers were quite reluctant to continue repairs, since a 2100 ton destroyer almost fell on them! God bless my Dad and the family of the Captain, Lt. Comdr. Benjamin Coe and all who served on the Ross and in all of our armed services today and throughout the history of these United States! I love the detail in the Destroyer and the water. I love how your work on gives the effect on movement , waves and splash. The story of your father during WWII just further enhances the artwork! Wonderful!...Cheryl
