Using the knife and fork I would carefully cut it into four slices, then eat it with my hand ... then watch everyone around me as they stare in total shock and PTSD;-)

I think it's more like salami, but that tastes good too.

with max, I love the mix of a subtle, quietly lit, intimate restaurant, with pizza. When I lived in New York, you'd go into a packed, loud, messy, tiny pizza joint ("pizza joint" is the technical term), and get a slice that dripped all over you and the floor, and you rolled it up and at it in 3 bites. In Chicago (my home), they serve deep dish pizza, which is so thick, you could lose your watch, phone and several loved-ones in it, and they wouldn't be found for days. It too was loud and crowded and messy. Here, however, it's served like a fine souffle. Really well done! All the other objects are pure fine dining, even the wine bottle holder. And the lighting is haute cuisine.

Thanks so much. The description of the Chicago-style pizza made me laugh out loud. I’d love to try one of those sometime. Authentic Italian pizzas usually have such a thin crust that you could almost read a newspaper through it—though they are delicious.

Back in the 1960's and 1970's we basically had only 2 pizza types -- the standard huge round one that was thin, but not too thin (~15 cents/slice) --- and the Sicilian square one that was very thick and juicy (~25 cents/slice). I loved both, especially with garlic.

Today the fad seems to be 'the thinner the better' ... lol ... which cracks me up. And when you add all the crazy toppings I just cringe and roll my eyes;-)

That's probably true. Nowadays, anything that isn't nailed down gets considered as a pizza topping :D

Wow...fine dining at its best! Judging from the early commenters above, I just went ahead and made a reservation at this restaurant before the list of diners grows. This place does not look like it sells pizza by the slice, but I am all in into eating the entire pizza on the table. :)

As an Italian, I don’t really recognise myself in this image. It’s picturesque and touristy. It’s interesting how, in many tourist towns, we sell tourists an idea of Italy that has nothing to do with reality. The French wine is perhaps the most unrealistic touch. A German beer would go better with the pizza.

Laughs Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I set this up the way a non-Italian imagines such a diner. Of course, I realize that what we view as "typically Italian" probably has little to do with actual Italian life. For most people, just eating a pizza feels very Italian—even if it comes from the freezer. If my travels ever take me to Venice, I’d love to take you up on that offer :)
