Most impressive sand-shatter effect! Mmmmmmmm..........wonder how you pulled THIS one off.
Thanks. It’s actually quite simple. Break the hourglass itself in Bryce using Boolean operations, then take a few spheres—using the "Meteor Trail" from the Pro-Materials—and adjust the texture. Add a few small props representing glass shards, and the rest is just a matter of lighting.
this is so photographic...really well done! The detail of the sands is very fine, and the light on the glass and contents are metallic and silvery and gold-like. And the textured gray background sets off the hour glass perfectly. A very fine piece.

laughs I'll try to show only one or two images a day; that should be enough of a head start :D And thanks a lot for the praise regarding the image. But IF you were to use Bryce, you'd see that it's actually relatively easy to do. It just sounds complicated—believe me :)
