Description
The release of the real-time strategy game StarCraft by Blizzard Entertainment in 1998 ushered in an era of quality video gaming that gave rise to the professional E-Sports phenomenon that continues to this day. Highly competitive StarCraft tournaments are still being conducted, mostly in South Korea, and feature strategies that continue to evolve some 28 years after the game’s first appearance in the late 1990s.
The game features three warring species, the mighty and mysterious Protoss, the human Terrans, descended from the survivors of several crashed penal colony ships stranded in the Koprulu Sector, and the hive-minded, insectoid Zerg, very similar to the Arachnids in the movie Starship Troopers.
All Zerg activity is centered on maintaining the Hive, a late-game structure evolved first from the Hatchery, then the Lair. It is at these central structures that minerals and vespene gas are collected and processed to create new structures and the units that these structures can spawn. Hive tech is required to allow for the production of specialized and very powerful units that cannot be created with either the Hatchery or Lair.
Once again, for this image, all models are original, created using either Wings3d or Sculptris. Sculptris is a free sculpting program similar to Z-Brush. I’m still learning how to texture and paint with this very powerful program. Unfortunately, the lighting in this scene does not permit much of that work to be visible. Perhaps next time! As always, Bryce5 has provided the rendering environment, with some post work employing Paint Shop Pro 8.
As always, thanks for lookin’!

Zerg Heaven, Terran Hell! Thanks for commenting.
Amazing Alienscape !..
Thanks!
Wow. What a magnificent, dark scene. Absolutely fascinating to look at.
Thanks for taking a peek and commenting!
Most impressive work - especially from Bryce 5. I'm on Bryce 7 and cant achieve this level of atmospheric realism. :-)
Long ago, I gave up on the Bryce5 Sky Lab and its associated atmospherics - for the most part. These days, I almost always use the basic black background and then employ volumetric spheres to create haze for distance. Skyscape backgrounds are generated from an extensive collection of pics taken on my frequent autumn beach-fishing excursions around Long Island.
Anyhow, thanks for the comment!
Somehow daliesque
Thanks!
Lovely alien composition!
Thank you!

Welcome..
The lighting and composition are perfect—it’s an amazing piece.
Thanks so much!
Where is Sarah Kerrigan, one of my favorite heroes? I assume the Queen of Blades is dispensing epic vengeance on some other planet at the moment?
I sure do miss her super-cool manners and personality ;-)
Yeah, Sarah's a peach, done in by that diabolical Arcturus Mengsk. Such a shame! Perhaps I'll do a Queen of Blades thing some time in the future when my skills improve by orders of magnitude! Anyhow, thanks for the comment. Always appreciated!
Hmmm, I don't think Sarah was done at all ... I recall she transformed back to the Queen with powers even greater than before, and then decided to leave this galaxy, or something like that.
I believe this was in the second 'chapter'.
I do get so confused with all the lore. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
At the end of the day, if the standard lore displeases you and you're not happy with ... just create your own lore ;-)
That's what I did with my vampires, witches and androids :-) And if anyone complains, let me know and I'll send one of my demons to spank them.
Cool !
Thanks!
What detail! This looks fantastic. I thought the lighting came out fine, at least it seems okay to see on my scene.
Thanks for your very generous comment!
Awesome sci-fi image very interesting creatures. Cool color and atmosphere. Outstanding!

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment!
Very good work on your models. Great job
Thanks!
Damn' this is very well done but a bit scary !
Thanks for the comment! The Zerg are indeed a scary lot!!
Amazing job!
Thanks!
Thanks for the background information; the game must be a blast to play. The scene is incredibly well done.
Thank you for the positive comment, and yes, the game is indeed a blast to play. It does take some considerable effort and commitment to learn the three races, but once done, StarCraft will provide years, and in my case, decades of satisfying, engaging play! I think the StarCraft Broodwars Remastered is free for download if you are interested.
This is wonderful work!
Thanks for the very generous comment.
I like the atmosphere...
