Hello dear friends,
This is one of the largest dragonfly species in Europe, recognizable by its length of 64 to 84 millimeters.
The photos were taken in a pond near our house. They are not the same dragonflies and not made on the same day, but they are the same species of dragonfly.
Fun fact: the green coloration indicates this is a female, as the males sport a bright blue abdomen. They are highly efficient hunters that catch their prey, such as mosquitoes and butterflies, mid-air.

Thank you very much, Herwig, and you're right they fly too fast. One need a lot of patient by photographing insects, sometimes it's quit a challenge. :D

What an amazing collection of dragonfly photos. (Libel - ja?)
It's so easy to get lost in your fractals, and your drawings and paintings, that we can forget how intimate and scintillating your photos are. These are amazingly detailed and beautiful. The Libel bodies look like they're made of ceramic, glass, fine silk, metals, etc. ANd I wouldn't have known that these aren't the same libel. Your close-up photos make the background look like a deep green sea. I know the insects are standing on the surface of a pond, but the air around them feels like water too. A beautiful capture of space as well as of the insect herself.
In the 4th to 6th photo from the left, the tail is immersed in the water: It looks like she's getting "fuel" (the way a car would). Amazing shots. And those wings look like stained glass. You've always gotten deep detail in your nature photography. These are beautiful, Jacomina. And the background doesn't interfere with them at all. Beautifully captured.
(Wouldn't it be amazing if they all gave up mosquitoes and butterflies, and went "vegan"? "We only eat veggies and fruit!" The mosquitoes and butterflies would like it! Pretty soon, you'd have vegan supplements for libels---herbal supplements, vitamins, minerals, herbal teas...) I have never taken a single photograph of insects that came close to what you're captured over the years. These are magic.
Jacomina, believe it or not, I've taken nearly an hour on just 3 of your images! I need to leave a few comments elsewhere, as I haven't visited some galleries in an eon. But I will come back for more of your work in the next few days. I have comments in my head for your previous images (I've seen them for a while)...but at least you know I spent time with your wonderful art. It's always worth it. I hope you are feeling as well as you can, and my prayers and wishes are with you. I hope you have rest and relief, as much as you can.
