Description
This silly image was originally for an out-of-control piece I wrote for JohnnyM (here), for his terrific "Bring a Raptor to Work Day". But, like many of my "idiotic" pieces----my word, not his!----it took forever to finish. I've had too many interruptions (and repeated medical visits) to be able to finish it. (I started it a after I started my previous upload...and then I was deluged. Mea culpa, Johnny. My apologies!)
Now Johnny is about to take off for a summer break---to be with his family (which is wonderful). So, I just wanted to post something---since I've promised a dedi for weeks now---so here it is.
This was the image---without the tale. So you know, the tale was a "Behind the Scenes" for a Johnny shoot---my version---with all the insanities that happen in a theater or film production (the first of which i've been part of many times): Over-acting, battles with directors and producers, egos gone wild, etc etc...all rendered in my usual out-of-control style that happens everytime I attempt comedy. I just couldn't finish it---but at least you have the image! (Ha! Quite a masterpiece, isn't it???) It's AI---but without any of the nuance Johnny brings to his animations. In fact, my characters took this image DOWN, 'cause it was such an insult to Johnny.
The "dedi" part:
In one sentence? Johnny puts love into his animations: It's all over everything he does. And flow, and nuance---his camera glides and moves with such mastery and sweetness. And he puts humanity into all his work. I've yet to see a passage without it. He has an innate sense of lighting, shade, "cinema"---movement, zooming, panning, circling...he thinks like a film maker. His camera caresses his subjects. All in all, they're beautiful animations, filled with love and genuine tenderness. (See his latest w/ Frankenstein's monster...it's a gem.)
Finally, he's a very dedicated member...his comments are wholly caring, his support of other artists is at the highest level, and he's so kind to everyone. And---he collaborates: He pays homage to other artists by using their creations in his work (with their blessings). I love that. (Courtray is the collaborator on J's "Raptor" animation.)
Sooooo.........with my cartoon raptors, let me say Thank You, Johnny, for being such a beacon here! And for your beautiful work and support. Have a wonderful vacation, with your daughter and all your loved ones, and may blessing be with you always! Grazie (Italian for "thank you")! The word comes from the same root as grace---of which you have an abundance. Have a great summer, Sir J! Mark
(I'm not Italian, but I love that word!)

they are not silly Mark, they are superb dinos they looks like friendly raptors. super AI creation for Hollywood Johnny my friend. he does the very best videos.
Mark...this upload of your has been a total surprise to me, as I was just checking before I start my vacation on Wednesday. This is an amazing image and my first thought is, wow, just wow...the colors are vibrant and these raptors are absolutely energized with all that color! It's a beautiful image...my daughter said these raptors are too cute and I agree!
I thank you for the compliments and I am grateful to you for expressing your way towards my humble animations. You can be sure of one thing for sure...the title of this image says, "For JohnnyM" and when you get back I plan to use this in one of my animations my friend. With that title, I guess I have your blessing to use them right Mark? lol
I will most likely create a story that does not embarrass these colorful little toothy creatures. (If you decide to write me a script for these little Raptors to act out, I will gladly use that as my basis for the animation) I Thank you once again for thinking of me with this dedication...you take care my friend! :)
I'm trying to figure out why these terrifying scary raptors make me giggle instead of run away and hide ... and the more I stare at them the more they make me giggle! Does this make me bad?
The Marauders ride again!!
Great fun to discover this, Mark. It makes me laugh so contagiously, not that I'm making fun of you, my friend.
(In Dutch there is a pun hidden in my first line, if you translate it literally it would after the comma say:"you stab the dragon with someone".)
Anyway, I know that Johnny is a very sweet person, before I was absent for a period here at RR, we had contact a few times via site mail. Unfortunately I'm still less active now, but I enjoy how you write about Johnnie, and describe him.
Your colorful image conveys so much positive energy, as well as naughtiness. I think it's beautiful and cheerful; it fits perfectly with the fact that Johnny is going on holiday. Lol, it could be five dinosaur pool floats that allow you to 'hang' in the water. I can just imagine it, so much fun!
With best wishes to you my friend, Mark, and to Johnny: "I wish you a wonderful holiday". Jacomina.
Forgive me for being so late, Jacomina, I just haven't moved very fast of late. (And I owe you a letter which I hope to write in the next week or so. At least part of it!) Yes, these raptors could make great pool floats---they LOOK like pool floats. They don't look like serious raptors. Your Dutch word "roofvogel" (I love that word!) comes from similar word-roots as our "raptor": "Roof" (in dutch) is related to "rap" because they both go back to ancient roots that mean, "grab, seize, steal," etc. We get "rob" and "rape" from it...and I assume Dutch has similar words.
(Hey, I didn't mean to exhaust you with "etymologische weetjes"! I just thought it was interesting.) (And what a great word "weetjes" is.) Ok, enough on woorden...
I do little AI...but when I do, I try to at least have fun with it. But Johnny is so devoted to AI, and does beautiful camera work and compositions, etc etc...I thought my AI raptors looked like a silly cartoon by comparison. Thank you for your comment, I know you don't have a lot of energy for comments, and I appreciate that you left one for me once more. (And btw, when I comment again, I'll comment on a number of your recent pieces...and I loved those "stamps". You had all kinds of wild creatures messing around in it. Helle has done pieces like that too. I'll get to them this month, along with your beautiful photography. Take care, much healing to you, and i hope you and Karel are surviving one of the worst heat waves in European history. Most Euorpeans don't have air conditioning, so I hope you two are ok without it. Much healing to you as always, love and blessings, mark
