Description
Over the past year I have spent a lot of time playing around with composition, partly to improve my image quality but also to force me to improve scenes to incorporate more subliminal narratives too,
Where in the past I looked to other 3D artists for inspiration, now I find myself leaning towards photographers more and in particular the way they control exactly what story an image is telling.
Of course the forest where Isla's story is set, is fictitious, so I have to build scenes to function within this narrative telling image, but in truth I quite enjoy that.
The basic theory is to have a leading line cutting across the lower portion of the image, with Isla just about on the line of thirds but with a deliberate void to the opposite top side to her which is primarily obscured by either saturated forest, fog or low light and sometimes a mix of all three.
The leading line is also exaggerated by foreground scatter with a slow gentle focal transition running through and towards the closure point where the focus becomes blurred into the fog looming beyond.
The general ambience for Isla's images are designed to be very soft and lush in nature with soft blues offset by the deep greens of the forest floor, I want them to feel quite tranquil in nature and almost ethereal too, I guess like walking in a forest at first light with a gentle mist for company.
Lighting is set to be quite saturated and soft too, with a gentle blue and green hue set to around k3700 before being disrupted by the soft glow of Isla's lamp which is set to around k2700.
The scene itself is about Isla starting to believe in herself and unknowingly becoming something more than herself by doing so as she becomes more harmonious with the forest and herself in kind, revealing a new courage which she never knew she had.
