Here's a preview from my "Songbird ReMix Parrotlets of the World". It will contain all 19 parrotlet species (with both male and female forms). The berries they're feeding on are from my Mistletoe prop in Australia v2. The Lilac-tailed parrotlet comes from South America (as all parrotlets do). It is found discontinuously from northern Colombia (Santa Marta Mountains) and northern Venezuela to Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana eastward to the border with (and possibly in) Amapá, Brazil. The violet-tailed parrotlet is non-migratory but appears to be somewhat nomadic. Sexes are dimorphic. The female has flanks that are duller than the male. It was described by the French polymath Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon in 1780 in his Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. They eat flowers, nectar, buds, berries, seeds and fruits, apparently mostly taken in the early morning. It is currently not threatened and is relatively common on Trinidad and is considered heavily traded by the pet industry in Venezuela. It appears to have a high mortality rate as a "pet" bird-- not doing well in a captive state; perhaps related to diverse natural alimentary regime.
