Description
Men worked in the boiler rooms on the Titanic in order to power it through the water. Known as the 'Black Gang' due to their work, they carted and shovelled thousands of tons of coal daily, as well as stoking furnaces and regulating the steam levels in the boiler. Enough steam needed to be created to power the Titanic's electrical plant which in turn would move the ship's propellers, pushing the ship through the water.
