Description
The coal strike at the time made it difficult to get enough for the Titanic's journey, causing the company to liberate some coal from other ships it owned, including the Olympic. Even then, the Titanic only left with 89% of its capacity, though it would be enough to get it to their targeted destination.
The Titanic had 159 furnaces, which used up to 850 tons of coal daily, creating roughly 51,000 horsepower. Burning 1.5 kilograms of coal for every meter travelled, a 30 kg coal lump would take the Titanic 20 meters and 1.5 seconds when moving at full speed.
