Description
Fire Island is a barrier island along the southern side of Long Island. The Fire Island Lighthouse was situated at the western end of the island in 1851. The island has since grown westward several kilometers as is the character of barrier islands. Pictured here is the lighthouse as it was in 1851. It was raised and rebuilt in 1858.
