Recently, my computer got hacked. They wiped out everything I had stored on my desktop. They wiped out every shortcut and bookmark I had in my browser. And somehow, they managed to mess up my Poser program. When I try to open files that I had stored, it starts asking for files, as if all of the object links are gone. My Runtime was deleted. It actually still exists, but I am going to have to reinstall it (the shortcut). I don't know if that will fix the problem or not. Does anyone have experience or expertise in this type of problem? I don't have the patience to start with a fresh install, and I don't know how much of my custom content that I had created and stored in my runtime still exists (poses, morphs, etc.).
If I can't get the links to work properly in my hundreds of stored files, I give up.

Sorry to hear that, I periodically backup up my runtime on 2 other hard drives just in case.
Without knowing what OS you are using, it is tough to determine which direction you should go. Windows 10 & 11 does allow you to repair your OS, but if you haven't addressed the hack problem, you don't know if they dropped malware on your system. Finding and recovering your content could save you installation time, however, you are looking at a complete OS reinstallation to clear your drive.
It's Windows 11. I had the manufacturer go in and clean up the hard drive. They said the machine is clear of any malware. But I don't know how to go about "finding and recovering [my] content."
Unhide all folders in your browser and run a search & find for a basic folder like runtime. If it is hidden, the feature should find it. Unfortunately, reinstalling Poser will not see the missing content if it completely disappeared when your system was hacked. Files/folders could be disassociated from their primary software, but if they are not available from where you placed them, they were modified or moved to a different location.
I must not be explaining it right. My Runtime folder was always separate. It still exists. When I tried to open one of my saved files, I started getting error message after error message, making me "search" for the files, and I'd search Runtime and find them. Then another, then another. I finally got the file open, but then discovered that my directory was not in Poser, so I am going to have to go back and link the two together. But I'm just wondering if Poser is corrupted, or what the deal is. And if I go through all the trouble of linking them and it doesn't work, then I'm not going to go through that every time I want to open an existing file, or start a new one.
It almost sounds like you need to re-add the runtime to your library. Which runtime was it? The default Poser 13 content (or whichever version of poser you're using) or was it one that you created?
It is my Runtime from like, Poser 7. I am currently running Poser 11. I have it in a folder outside of the content folder for Poser 11, and I had added it. I'm just afraid that maybe Poser 11 is corrupted. I guess I can try adding my Runtime back to the library, I hope it will work. I'm just so angry. What happened was, I got a call from a hacker, spoofing a phone number I had stored in my phone from Comcast/XFinity Security, saying that they were getting error messages from my modem, that the security settings were too low. They had me download a program that gave them access to my computer. Then they said they would call back in an hour, because they had to contact authorities about the identity theft, that I had $18,500 in charges through bitcoin, 4 Amazon accounts, and that I had uploaded 88 files of kiddie porn. They never called back, but the next day, when I turned on the computer, the mouse started going crazy, deleting files. They even deleted a bunch of my emails (which I was able to recover). But I wasn't able to recover several files on my desktop, and all of my bookmarks and shortcuts were gone. I shut the computer off immediately, and called Comcast. They had no record of contacting me. They suggested I contact the computer manufacturer, and they cleaned up the files. I had already deleted the control program that the hacker had me install. It's been an absolute nightmare.

So sorry this happened to you. It's always a fear. You better check you bank account and credit cards and maybe change your passwords, if you haven't already. If you think Poser is corrupt, you could just re-install over it. For runtime folders located off the C drive, I've always been able to just point Poser to them and they have always worked. Here's to a better day!

Sorry to learn about what happened to your computer. It must have been terrible. Those hackers ought to be shot. Wouldn't really know what to suggest other than to send it in for repair... Hopefully the problem has been fixed by now.
