The ship Julia had hired to take her across the sea had smashed onto the rocks of this uninhabited island. The crew and the three other passengers had escaped in the lifeboats, but she had somehow been left behind. As she pulled herself onto the rocky shore, Julia was afraid that she wouldn’t last the night. However, she had always been resourceful, so she set her mind to survive the best she could. She gathered everything possible from the wreckage, and collected fruits and nuts to eat. With the tools and other items she had salvaged, Julia soon made a new little life for herself. To her shock, an orphaned panther cub appeared at her camp one day, and she raised him as a companion (and even taught him a few tricks, like “high five”). By periodically searching the coast, she found plenty of other items from different wrecks, including a broken lifeboat. As the months passed, she managed to fix it. But, now that she had a chance to perhaps leave this island, she started having second thoughts. Julia was thriving here. She was the “queen” of her own little kingdom, with plenty of water, food, and things to keep her busy. Even a best friend. Did she really want to go back to the chaos of civilization?
