This is way to realistic! I know two people who live in the area! I pray they will be safe, along with everyone else!
It's terrible. I think of all the New Year's wishes they made, certain that 2025 would be better than 2024. And now so many, rich and poor, have lost their very homes. There is a suggestion, not fully investigated yet, that Californian and Los Angeles authorities failed to anticipate accurately how terrible wild fires might get if combined with near-drought conditions. Future inquiries will come to the proper conclusions. In the meantime, I feel sorry for those unhappy Angelinos. Can you imagine! Suddenly, overnight in fact, they find themselves homeless and dependent on friends and strangers for food, clothing, and a place to sleep. It's heartbreaking.
So heartbreaking to see all those folks losing their homes! What a horrible experience that has to be. I'll take this snow a million times over what they are dealing with. I wish I had a way to send all this snow to help fight the fires.

Wow Ute, this photograph says it all, it's so sad to see that so many are losing their homes! For me living here in San Diego and close to Los Angeles, it really hits home and I feel saddened for the many who are now homeless. I think to myself...that could easily be my home burning!
The weather around the world spares no one, whether it be Wild fires,Hurricanes or Tornadoes, Floods or other weather events. All these occurrences end up putting many in harm's way. I can only hope that the days and months ahead are better for everyone around the world. :-(
The conditions were just right and all it takes is someone flicking their cigarette out their car window, which I see all the time.
It's a very frightening situation. I have family in Southern California (although they're not in any danger so far).

I saw this when you posted it: It's frighteningly realistic. LA was devastated by these fires. Your image is very powerful: You captured night, but you also captured the eerie glow of huge fires, and the red mist and smoke that comes from it. Fire, by itself---when it's not harming anyone---is beautiful: But once it invades life, it's horrific. This image captures that feeling: No matter how dazzling flames are, they're horrific. Too many cities have seen this scene, in the last century. It was devastating to see it in yet another. Powerful work, as always, Ute.
