Within minutes, they were traversing the corridor of the new starship; escorted by the chief engineer.
"You'll not find a finer ship in the fleet, Captain." The engineer beamed with pride. "Seven shake down cruises, and a battery of enhancements since her entry into service. First of her class."
"Busy." Mitchell observed a constant flow of active personnel movement within the corridor.
"Last minutes readiness checks and placements." The Engineer grinned. "Command wants her ready upon your command." He gave a small tilt of his head. "We're not much here on launch ceremonies. A vessel is readied and the moments she's declared active; She goes out unless listed as reserve."
"So, a captain gets to know his ship and crew when activated?" Mitchell shook his head slowly. "Interesting."
"Welcome to Rapid Response Station, Sir." The Engineer nodded curtly.

I have met a couple of engineers in our navy. Talk about their ships and they stand taller and proud. Yep. most certainly.
