Description
Starbelle entered the passage leading from the cryosleep chamber to the control room. As she walked she spoke to the AI that managed the ship. "Ship, can you access one of your surrogate bodies? When I face whatever is on the bridge I don't like the idea of being alone."
Ship replied: "It appears that I am barred from control functions but it seems I could activate and control one of my surrogates. I will enter one and meet you in the navigation station. We can proceed together from there onto the bridge proper. I'm sorry I can't do more but if you find a physical presence comforting I CAN manage that, at least."
Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered using Superfly Cycles X in Poser 13.3.686. Some postwork was accomplished in Superfly and a tad more in Photoshop. The character of young Starbelle is based on La Femme. Tons of other legacy characters were used to fill the other cryoleptic chambers. The setting is by the wonderful BlueTreeStudio (I fiddled with the textures a bit to get a bit more utility from the content). As usual, I found scripts by Ken1171_Design indispensible.

Thanks for the encouragement, Rad! The AI is bound by Asimov's three laws and then some. I hope you will enjoy the appearance of the surrogate body which I plan to reveal in the next picture. =)

The vessel AI is bound by Asimov's three laws? We hope he - or it? - will not become like HAL 9000...
I'm not sure what the AI's pronoun would be but I imagine it to have a feminine voice. I'm hoping the three laws don't get broken by the zeroth law: “A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm”. With that a robot might neglect the well-being of a single human in the service of benefit to the majority. =)
I do love my science fiction and particularly love Asimov even though he's a bit of a male chauvinist. He is a product of his time.

Starbelle is a cutie, I agree. A bit younger than my usual heroine but perhaps more charming for that.

That's a sweet comment, my dear friend! I have been working hard to improve my use of lighting and volumetric atmosphere. I always love my characters and the worlds and stories I invent for them and am so pleased you like Starbelle and her dilemma, too!

I'm with Joe - the misty lighting really adds a nice touch to the scene though the ship's air scrubbers better get to work...

Asimov might have been a chauvinist, but he was way ahead of the curve with robotics and its impact on society when everyone else was still imagining interstellar spaceships shaped like V2 rockets - which were shaped like 7.92 x 57 Mauser ammunition...
Nothing wrong with a little cutie as a POV....adds a diferent flavor to the adventure.

Thanks, JD. Asimov was mostly a man of his time that could tell a story. I love a lot of his non-science fiction stuff, too, like stories of the Black Widowers and the demon Azazel. His early robot stories remain my favorites, though. The atmosphere IS a bit thick and I think I'll tone it down a bit for further images in the series. XD

Thanks, Amanda. She'd probably prefer human company by Ship is a good substitute. I really enjoyed designing the characters and hope you will like my look for Ship's surrogate whom we meet pretty soon if I remember this series correctly. =)
