Description
A Mexican Red-Kneed says "Hello".
I'm figuring we're close enough to October to do a Halloween render and here's one of those "worst fears" ones... Actually, it is almost unheard of for a Mexican Red-knee Tarantula to bite a human, but they are quick to kick urticating hairs in self-defense (though even their hairs can be less irritating than those of other species). Pain from these hairs is similar to that of brushing up against stinging nettles.
The Mexican Red-Knee Tarantula is found along the Western faces of the Sierra Madre del Sur and Sierra Madre Occidental mountain ranges in Mexico. They eat mostly insects (crickets, worms, beetles, locusts), but occasionally prey lizards and even young rodents.
They are probably the most popular choice of tarantula pets. Habitat destruction and collection for the pet trade have led to these spiders being among the few arthropods protected under international “Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species” rules.

I actually lived through this nightmare in real life.......giant wolf spider crawling across my face in the middle of the night. I brushed my face, jumped up and turned on the light, and found the culprit, actually almost the size of this one, crawling across my bed. I slept on the couch in the living room for several days after that......
The Mexican Red Knee is one of the most sought-after pet tarantulas, mainly and as you say, they rarely if ever bite and they are quite pretty. I had a Mexican Red Knee T several years ago along with several other Ts, of which I donated to the local reptile shoppe at the time I started building the radio station here and I didn't want people coming through here to be spooked by my eight-legged pets. I do miss my Ts though.

Very good idea and excellent image! In my home, I have a lot of spiders but neither dangerous.nor frightening. So, I delicately catch them and put them outside, in the garden.
At least it didn't fall right down on her/his face like the scorpion that got me!
