Description
One of my own photos (the third photo here) edited in GIMP to try and get a charcoal drawing effect. I'm not sure whether it worked, but I like the result
I've also posted photos of two other damselflies taken on the same day
The charcoal effect version was for a Renderosity contest a couple of years ago. I googled terms like "convert photo to charcoal sketch" and found a few interesting 'ways you can do it in photoshop' videos on YouTube (this was in the days before online AI tools do do it instantaneously). I played around in GIMP using various ideas I'd picked up and this was the result. Unfortunately I have no idea what I did as I didn't make any notes.
I also tried to get watercolour effect versions of photos of the ghats and some red flowers

I'd say the charcoal effect worked very well, but you're also a master of photography!!!
Thanks. The damselfly was very patient. Very, very patient - I've added two more photos of it here.
Great photo and the post-work is excellent. :-)
Thanks. I only had my idiotphone available at the time. I'd never really used the camera before, but found that it had a macro facility. Cheap idiotphione, so expected the result to be crap. I was absolutely amazed, and delighted.
Beautiful photo! I wonder if it was looking at the cam! About the charcoal, if not there yet it is very close, maybe less line definition in small areas, more tone variation, more bleeding to borders, who knows? It looks great already anyway.
Thanks, twicely ! :o) I think my favourite is the third photo (in the order they appear here that is), which is the first one I took of him/her.
