Description
Kimiko crouched by the inert figure sprawled at the end of the pier. "I'll just retrieve my knife and..." her voice trailed off. "I don't care for this!"
Fumiko watched her partner and asked, "What's the problem, Kim?"
"I'd have expected a great deal more blood, Fumi. My thrust should have sliced the kidney, some big blood vessels and maybe even penetrated her heart!" Kimiko worked the blade out. "In fact, no blood at all!"
As the two pirates pondered this, they failed to hear the whirring of gears emitted by the misshapen figure that descended the steps to the pier.
Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.1029 rendered with Superfly/Cycles 2 and tweaked a bit in Photoshop. Attempting a dark, foggy night continues to be challenging to me, to say the least. The air pirates are based on the Dawn and V4 mesh with modifications by Tempesta3d. Sonja Steelsinger is based upon La Femme with modifications by Afrodite-Ohki. The Steam launch is by Cybertenko. The Steam Carriage is by ADH3D. The overall scene is by BlueTreeStudio.

Hehe . About to get their comeuppance and in an unexpected way. Nicely handled narrative and love the over the shoulder pov here.
Thanks, Joe! I enjoy mixing up the PoV in response to the narrative and I certainly wanted to convey the idea that it's "clobberin' time" and the pirates ought to be nervous than they apparently are. =)

The plot twist at the end with the misshapen figure added an element of mystery to the story. I couldn't help but wonder if the characters' confusion over the lack of blood was a subtle nod to the reader's intelligence. It reminded me of an iq test free question where you have to use deductive reasoning to solve a puzzle.
