Sonja Steelsinger departed the Darkstar mansion seething with anger. Fat Bob, the Guardian and the house staff remained at the mansion. Miss Pannakin, her personal assisting clank, greeted Sonja as she arrived at the Darkstar Mechanical Person Manufactory. "Greetin's Miss. Where's teh Guardian and thet knob, Fat Bob? Comin' ter think on it, where's teh new Guvner?" "D'rather not speak on it, Pannakin. It's all what yeh needs ter know when I tells yeh teh Guvner been shanghaied." Sonja crossly replied. "I'll need yer assistance gettin' ready fer goin' out this evening." The little clank emitted a grinding sound while it thought. "Teh Tavern?" she hazarded. "Ef 'tis teh Tavern yeh be lookin' fer trade wi' teh pirates agin?" Sonja merely nodded. " 'Tis yer arms yeh'll be wantin', I wager," the little clank said. "Aye. It's a fight I expect but I'll not leave those two without teh Guvner er least wise teh name o' person er persons what 'as teh Guvner in teh bag!" Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered with Poser 12.0.1029 and tweaked a bit in Photoshop. Steelsinger is based on La Femme with modifications by Afrodite-Ohki. Miss Pannakin is the work of 1971s as is the background. The Steam Carriage is by ADH3D.

very cool! her face and fists say she's ready for a fight. I love the small robot.

MollyFootman 3:49PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thank you, my dear! I love little Pannakin, as well, and enjoy giving her a big personality to make up for her small sized. As for Sonja's mood, you bet she's angry! XD

mazzam 6:54PM | Mon, 26 September 2022

I like it. Not too complicated and fine realistic lighting.

MollyFootman 3:50PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thanks, Mazzam. I find outdoor lighting on a sunny day just about the easiest challenge as far as lighting goes. I'm glad for your validation! =)

A splendid and finely detailed image! Nice dialogue as well for this chapter! Very well realized! Bravo!

MollyFootman 3:51PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thanks, Rad. Not a lot of action but a lot of exposition and set up for the next few pictures which might take a bit of time for me to set up. They'll be a bit more complicated than this one.

RodS 8:09PM | Mon, 26 September 2022

Beautiful artwork, Molly - and I love the dialogue! Great job on both!

MollyFootman 3:52PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thanks, Rod! Sonja gets to star for a bit as Lilja has been taken out of the picture for the moment.

Beautiful steampunk scene, I like her clothes

MollyFootman 4:26PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thank you! Her clothing are really old content that I refitted for her (Originally for V4).

The hat is from:

The pants and goggles are from Jonnte here:

The boots were the only thing I didn't have to refit for La Femme and are found here:

Nice scene! I want to read more!

MollyFootman 4:26PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

That's music to my little ears, Annie. Thank you for such an encouraging comment!

JoeJarrah 7:31AM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Great illustration... that's one very cheesed off looking lady! Love the PA ... An intriguing implied backstory between Pannikin and Bob too.

MollyFootman 4:30PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thanks, Joe! Pannakin fancies herself to be much smarter than the larger clanks and is also pretty hard on the Guardian. See here, for instance:

I notice that somewhere along the line I changed the spelling of her name... I so need an editor. >.<

Annerose 9:40AM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Dear Molly, I love the steampunk style. Shanghaied - what does that mean? I guess nothing pleasant ...

MollyFootman 4:36PM | Tue, 27 September 2022

Thank you, my dear. Shanghaied is an archaic nautical term which means to be pressed into acting against your own well being. It comes from the practice of abducting men from saloons using guile, chloroform or outright violence. The victims were conveyed to the ships upon which they were meant to serve as crew. By the time the victims recovered consciousness the ship was on it's way to distant destinations (such as Shanghai) and they had no choice but to serve. The term has come to mean making someone do things against their will or kidnapping them. Here, of course, the meaning is regarding kidnapping. Therefore, to be "shanghaied" is to be abducted or kidnapped. =)

Annerose 9:39AM | Wed, 28 September 2022

Dear Molly, thank you for your interesting explanation. This former violence act sounds very cruel ...

MollyFootman 2:39PM | Wed, 28 September 2022

You're welcome! =)

perpetualrevision 3:38PM | Thu, 29 September 2022

I love Miss Pannakin, and what a helpful and perceptive assistant she is! Nice work making Sonja look as angry as she feels! Some bad guys are gonna have headaches (and perhaps body aches) come the morrow, I'd wager.

MollyFootman 2:49PM | Sat, 01 October 2022

I love Miss Pannakin, too. I like to give her a big personality to make up for her small stature. Sonja will indeed be kicking butt soon. XD
