Our super rare and Federally Endangered Weed's Mariposa Lily (Calochortus weedii ) just bloomed so thought I'd share the photo of the most unusual flowers in the endemic and native Californian palette. It is native to the coast, foothills and mountains of southern California and Baja California, where it is a member of the chaparral flora.

A most interesting flower and not something that leads to thoughts of Alien plants taking over the planet and enslaving us all... Nope not at all!
