Description
someone or corporation recently purchased the whole thing
I changed it to black/white because of heavy haze/ forest fires. now who would think California could have haze?

It looks really good in black & white.

Monochrome certainly works for this landscape. I suppose, if it's all been bought, it will be developed into housing or industrial estates?

I doubt that California would allow it. it is a historical place

I did tour the castle, but I enjoyed outdoors better. they have beautiful landscaping. photos are restricted from selling. I would love to tour the ranch. it is very large

Weather went nuts, superb shot.

I took this photo from outside the entrance building. I wanted to post pictures I took of landscaping, but did not want problems. the lighting inside is very dim. a camera with high ISO is needed. they frown on flashes, well I actually frown on flashes also

This landscape looks quite dramatic in black & white! I hope whoever owns it now will take good care of it!

A really vast feeling, with this "frosting" of a castle---sitting atop your photo like the streusels on a cake. I mean, I know the Hearst Castle is vast, but you caught it as a distant jewel on a mountaintop. The rock and their dark facades, and all that rounded stone in front make for a forbidden-looking 'entryway' to the castle. The black rock (in this black and white shot) reminds me of the nickel country up in Ontario. A very full shot with the castle stuffed away like some medieval fortress (which I know is what Hearst wanted it to be). I really love this shot.
