I love both of these characters, Amy! =)
The setting is perfect and it was a nice touch to use a pretty shallow DoF in order to leave them in sharp focus and deemphasize the tavern (even though it's a wonderful setting, it's the character interaction that's the THING!). Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Molly! I'm finding that most of what I've learned about f-stop settings in actual cameras doesn't really apply to Poser's cameras, so I've had to scrap that knowledge and focus on what Poser's actually doing. I'm starting to get the hang of it, but Poser still sometimes scratches its head and refuses to play along when I use really weird camera settings (which I did not do in this scene, thankfully). I love Iron Monkey and have used him quite a few times, but this was my first time using SteamBetty -- but not my last! :-)

Splendid sci-fi concept!

Great work!

Now that I've read your comment about keeping the beer glass in focus, I can't stop laugh! But I think you made the right choice! I really feel drawn into the conversation between these characters!

Thanks for the comment, Flint_Hawk! I'd love to overhear this conversation! Although given the Iron Monkey's slightly "always running some kind of scam" personality, I hope SteamBetty doesn't take him too seriously :-)

hahahah I LOVE the beer glass pun!!! And seriously, you can make even robots look cute!!! I love this scene, and like Molly said the DoF works nicely here. What you can do when you have 2 (or more) heads that are not on the same plane is slightly increase the f/stop. It will still blur the background (and foreground depending on where the subjects are) but you will have a larger area in focus. In any case the monkey is also pretty much in focus, only slightly "fuzzier" than the other robot. Or maybe I've just had one too many, lol!!!

Ha ha!! If I can't make it cute, I'm probably doing something wrong :-) (Heck, I've even tried to make some of Summoner's scary creatures cute!) But the Iron Monkey is cute out of the box, and quite the mischief maker, as you can see in previous scenes featuring him. I was delighted in how well the SteamBetty character rendered, given how old it is!
Thank you for the DOF tip! I think in this case I lucked out b/c the beer glass is in the right spot between the two heads (on the z axis), so the heads are also mostly in focus. DOF is definitely fun to play with, but I've found that it often does NOT like the weird things I do to the camera, even with structure's script. Thankfully the camera's settings here weren't too weird :-)

It looks great, and V4 steam Betty is smoking. :-) It's a nice touch with the exhaust pipe coming out of the back of her head. Hold she doesn't get caught out in a big rain.
perpetualrevision 11:09AM | Tue, 29 March 2022
Thanks for the comment! Smoking, eh? Good one! Next time I use her perhaps I'll add a bit of steam coming from that pipe! And yes indeed, let's hope she doesn't get caught out in the rain or she'll need a pint of Rust-oleum :-)

Great scene. Very realistic poses. The bartender looks so relaxed. And your lighting is superb!
perpetualrevision 11:11AM | Tue, 29 March 2022
Thanks so much for the comments! There's something kinda fun about making a robot-like figure have a "just chillin' with the customers" kind of pose :-)

I don't suppose he ordered the house special, the 'rusty nail?' LOL! A very cute scene and marvelous image. Most excellent interactions between the characters!
perpetualrevision 11:12AM | Tue, 29 March 2022
The "rusty nail" is indeed the house special!! How did you know? :-) But I think Iron Monkey's having a pint of Rust-oleum, because he's been feeling a little creaky lately :-)

This is so cool. Love the bartender. Great textures and tones
gerberc 12:05PM | Tue, 29 March 2022
Cool scene with great DOF. As you commented earlier I suspect a glass of mineral or silicone oil would be healthier for Iron Monkey :)

Fantastic scene. Love that monkey!! I think she is out of his league though. LOL
