This is awesome. I love the colors really give off a comic strip vibe. I think you're about the blades of the cutlass. Reminds me of anime character who wielded a sword with a reverse blade for non-lethal attacks.

Thank you for the comment, MajinBoo! A blade not meant to be used for lethal force would fit with the "toon" idea! But these cutlasses look like they might cut, just awkwardly!

Cool comic strip look to this Cookie scene. They are both cute so I don't know how but I hope they both win. LOL

Since they're just sparring, they both win! They are crew mates, after all. Only the best of pirate friends wear the same outfit, but in different colors :-)

First of all, I am ashamed to admit that my first thought looking at this was that the cutlasses were bending the wrong way! I felt a little less guilty when I read your art notes. >.<
This is another of your wonderful story pictures that look like it has been lifted out of the pages of children's book. I'm always a bit afraid to use artistic post work mods like this and really admire how it turns out in your hands.

Perhaps these are special "sparring" blades! I suppose I could've brought them into my modeler and fixed the curvature, but this is probably the only time I'll use them, so I let it slide. (In the past, I wouldn't have been able to resist that temptation, so this is progress!)
I find the postwork art effects useful for a variety of situations, esp. when I'm using content of different "styles" and I want the items to look right together, like with my scenes of the Star Sisters and the Victorian shops. They also help with content that has older textures that don't render that well at current settings and with scenes that just look boring "as is," as was the case for this scene: Baby Dragon Playdate (that's a link to my blog post, which shows the original as well as the one with art effects). I could've spent hours more trying to make the original look better and probably would've gotten nowhere, but the art effects instantly made the scene much cuter!
For the kind of art you make, and given that you can use Superfly with all its amazing materials, I'm not sure these kind of art effects would suit your style. But it's always worth experimenting with if the mood strikes you!

Well, let's just hope they're not COOKIE CUTTERS! ;-)

Cute pirates on the high seas, I can hear the swelling music in the background. Great Art here, Irrrr!
perpetualrevision 1:02AM | Fri, 18 March 2022
Thanks for the comment! I can hear the music too, but it's the friendly "we're just sparring for practice because we're really great friends" music, rather than the ominous "one of us shall die today" music :-)

This looks amazing! You have a real talent with these scenes!
perpetualrevision 1:04AM | Fri, 18 March 2022
Thanks for the comment! The credit goes to trumacar for making these adorable outfits for Cookie. I just dress her up and the rest of the scene makes itself :-) (OK, it's not always that easy, but putting the buccaneers on a ship seemed like an obvious choice!)

Taking play acting to new levels, the kids enter the halodeck and play one of Captn' Picard's old favorite programs! LOL! A marvelous and fun scene! Very nicely realized! Bravo!
