Description

As suddenly as it began, it ended. The apparition seemed to evaporate, the terrifying sound faded and the lights came back up. Brooke collapsed sobbing into the arms of Gregor. "There, there, mladshaya sestra," he murmured somewhat awkwardly. "She was so different!" Brooke sniffled. "She was terrifying! More like a real Ghost!" "But she is a real Ghost, Brooke," Dorotea said. To her sister she said, "I have never heard such pain and rage! How ever did you get past that, Lizzie?" "It was not easy, Tea! It was worth it though. She is a wonderful person and a great help as a research assistant!" Still huddled against the increasingly uncomfortable Gregor, Brooke added, "Professor, I felt her in my head. It was like she could have booted me out and had my body as her own!" Elizabeth nodded enthusiastically. "It's a theory I've been exploring. I think spirits who are as well-integrated as Grace could inhabit mortal bodies again. It leaves open the question of what happens to the current spirit inhabiting a body if one that no longer has it's own body enters. Very interesting and an area that warrants more research." "You know I can hear you, don't you?" It was Grace's soft breeze of a voice. "Why don't you come up to the second floor and I'll tell you how I became the angry entity you just witnessed. Fear not, I'm in control and quite presentable again." Dorotea looked at her sister and nodded. "I'm in, Lizzie." To Brooke and Gregor she added, "You can wait if you wish." Brook cleared her throat and snuffed. "No, I want to see this through. Besides she says she's done scaring us." "Da. Is old Russian saying: In for a penny, in for a pound." Gregor mustered a smile for Brooke. "Let's go up and hear her out!" "That's settled then. Let's not keep Grace waiting!" Professor Van Humbeek followed her sister up the stairs with Brook and Gregor. Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.703 and tweaked for compositing ghostly Grace into the picture, color saturation and a subtle vignette in Photoshop. The setting is based on the Haunted House by Blue Tree Studio. The characters are based on morphs and textures by Tempesta3d imposed upon the La Femme, L'Homme and Dawn meshes. Flink's instant forest, trees, sky and rolling hills enhanced the background. The characters and personalities of Elizabeth and Dorotea Van Humbeek, Gregor Bubnoff, Brooke Potts and Grace Geist are my original characters. I am so indebted to the content creators who made the meshes, morphs and textures that allowed me to bring these people to life. Briefly, Professor Elizabeth Van Humbeek is a paranormal investigator who teaches at the University of River Heights. Her elder sister, Dorotea, is a world traveler and adventurer. Brooke and Gregor are graduate students and assistants to the Professor. Grace Geist is a restless spirit that has become something of a familiar to the professor. Her ghastly changed appearance is Ghost for V4 by Adam Thwaites.

For what's going on in the image (a hug) it still has a creepy feel. Well done!

Thanks, Annie. That's the sort of thing an artist telling a ghost story likes to hear! =)

Fun again, Molly. Like the Russian saying "in for a penny, in for a pound." Reminds me of Star Trek's Chekov. Blew this one up to study the textures. Thinking the rug was meant to have worn edges with some missing bits. Never see that in the props you get in scenes. Also Like the portrait on the stairwell wall. Good appropriate art in scenes makes a lot of difference, even if you have to look for jpegs and apply them to assets or planes. I got a lot of miles out of the Oseberg Tapestry :)

Great job...

Thank you, my dear!

I confess to being inspired by the character of Anton Chekov from Star Trek as I imagined Gregor Bubnoff.

As for the textures, I'm sure that the rug was meant to have missing bits to look old and moth-eaten. It's part of the "old haunted house" look that Stuart of Blue Tree Studios used when setting up the content. Now I've got to look me up this Oseberg Tapestry of which you speak! XD

This is getting a Mrs Marples feel as the revelations come out, great story telling and accompanying illustration, nice work on the lighting once more, the lamps are very well done

Oooh! That's quite a compliment to compare my characters to Agatha Christie's Miss Marples! Thank you! <3

As for the lamps, I'm loving emissive materials in Superfly and kudos to Vince Bagna for his materials that I use as a basis for such things!

Yes, Grace's apparition literally reached into poor Brooke's mind. I expect it has left a mark that is unlikely to ever disappear! I'm delighted you have been enjoying the story, Anne!

I really like this one. It seems to tell the story even without the words. Great job!

A comment like that is music to a story-teller's ears! Most of what I do is illustration for stories which I generally share some (poorly edited) text from. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me such a nice comment!
