Description
Did you knew that the Walpurgis Night is a real parallel piece to Halloween. It is exactly half a year after the last one, and half a year before the next Halloween, so right in the middle. On top of that, the following day, May 1st, is always a holiday, as well as Halloween, where the next day, November 1st, is always a holiday. We also celebrate the day, and call this "Opofeen" (means Opposit of Halloween) to make the time until Halloween more bearable.

Excellente scène, Ute ! Tu as bien rendu la nuit de Walpurgis, plus joyeuse que celle d'Halloween car elle marque le retour de la partie lumineuse de l'année où la nature se réveille ! Les Celtes appelaient cette fête "Beltaine" alors qu'Halloween est l'ancienne fête celtique de "Samain"...Samain marquait le commencement de l'année et c'est parce qu'elle se trouvait à la charnière de deux années, celle qui finissait et celle qui commençait, que les Celtes pensaient qu'à Samain les portes de l'Autre Monde étaient ouvertes pendant ce moment de flottement entre deux années...Mais pour les Celtes l'Autre Monde n'était pas équivalent à notre Au-Delà ! L'Autre Monde englobait tous les autres niveaux de réalité du "monde subtil" et pas seulement les bas niveaux du plan astral...

Yes, I'm very familiar with Walpurgisnacht---Goethe wrote a poem about St. Walpurga (if I recall), and Mendelssohn wrote music based on the poem. (I'm not 100% sure of that, but I'm 90% sure!) And you captured the spirit of the night wonderfully. Originally it was supposed to keep witches away...but I'm sure people loved to dress up as witches and have a great festival. I love all these women dressed in black, and their great faces (with the black rings around their eyes, and red lipstick), and the fires, and those lit orange skulls...and you have a few ghosts on the rooftops, and a few great looking children---they look like ghouls or half-ghosts. There's even a child running in from a tunnel (or passageway) on the right. Delightful, Ute. I didn't know that Walpurgisnacht was in Spring, though: Thank you for telling us. It's great that you have 2 spooky holidays in Deutschland, while we only have one...a delightful upload!
Ute, I just got a phone call, and I have to do see some relatives right now, but I'll return either tonight or Monday morning. (It's sunday evening in Chicago, now.) Unexpected...sorry! I'll be back soon.
