Description
A fly that "dresses like a wasp"
Hoverflies, sometimes called flower flies, or syrphid flies
They are unusual . Its larvae are often found in some anthills, probably to feed on the aphids they rear. (Wikipedia)
Syrphe, peu commune .

Fabulous macro.
Looks like a tough mean fly. Most superb macro capture Jean. Love your work my friend. 5++

Superbe cadrage. J’aime beaucoup....et quelle netteté!
Superb macro !!
Excellent macro of this little beauty...I have been on the lookout for insects in my area---nothing. No crawlies, no flies, nothing. I don't know what birds are eating...very concerning to say the least.
Great capture of this unusual critter! I would still flinch if it flew near, I have met a real wasp before...
Interesting creature and great details - wonderful capture my friend!!!

"They are unusual" I never seen one in my live so I only can agree. In what enviroment did you find this one. Field, bush?
I found this one by the side of a path in the countryside.
Wow! Cool little thing! Great shot, Jean-Claude.
Bravo !
