A hero of mine, Peter Tork died on the 21st of Feb ... the anniversary of his bandmate Davy Jones' death was the 28th of Feb. ... On Peter's fb his family posted: "We are asking fans who would like to make contributions in Peter’s name to donate to the scholarship fund at The Institute for The Musical Arts in Massachusetts, a nonprofit that provides young women with music education, music recording, and music community. Very nicely done and a fitting image.
It seems there are many more women and girls taking up guitar now, which has to be a good thing. Seeing as half the world is female, they're hugely under represented in music. Here's to the next generation of pickers and shredders.
As I said I was lucky to play guitar at an early age. My folks were pushing me towards music because of my visual impairment ... but I kept going towards the visual arts. I still play guitar though.

For myself, I was lucky ... an old cowboy picker who worked down the road from us, in Cody Wyoming, taught me to play guirar when I was 9 ... Fifty-five years ago

I was fortunate enough to have met Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz to personally tell them how much their music and creations have meant to me. Unfortunately I never had that opportunity with Peter Tork and David Jones.
