Description
“Sheera and I spend so much time alone in the wild, I almost forgot how it feels to be in a good man’s arms,” Kara confessed with a wistful sigh, reluctantly forcing herself up, out of Coran’s embrace.
“Well then, maybe I shouldn’t have intervened with those brigands,” he teased as he rose behind her. “They seemed more than willing to spend some quality time in your company.”
“I said ‘a good man’s arms’,” she retorted with a mocked huff, “and, as you observed, at least their leader was a very small threat.”
“Oh,” he chuckled at her reference to his own innuendo, “and I’m a more… substantial… one am I?”
“You are indeed,” she only half teased, as she turned and placed a long, lingering kiss on his willing lips. “You could make me forget my vows, and long for the simple life of home, hearth… and family.” Adding after a long regretful sigh; “But that is not out fate is it? We chose to walk our paths alone… surrendering our wants and desires to Selune’s will… and whims.”
“Perhaps,” Coran comforted as he gently stroked her beautiful face. “But if the Moonmaiden truly guides our steps, then isn’t she the one who brought us together… at least for the moment… and shouldn’t we embrace her boon for as long as her will allows?”
“You’re right,” she beamed, as a wicked smile turned her lips and the truth in his words registered. “How else would you have happened to be at just the right place in the whole expanse of the Cormanthor, at just the right time? Although, if you had arrived just a few minutes earlier it would have been considerably less… embarrassing.”
“But not nearly as inspiring,” he taunted as he claimed her lips in a passionate kiss, his mind’s eye flashing back to the enticing image of her glorious, nearly naked body bond, suspended between two tree branches where the brigands intended to ravage her.
Breaking camp went quickly and easily, consisting of little more then rolling up their bedrolls and stowing them in Coran’s enchanted pack, then he touched the little metal sphere speaking the command in elvish “hut down”, the shimmering magical dome instantly vanishing, and he stowed it back in his belt pouch. He tossed another piece of dried meat to Sheera, who had begun to pace anxiously, but settled down to gnaw on it, while he and Kara broke their fast on another piece of elven bread as the watched the sun rise fully in a comfortable silence.
“I think you’ve made a friend,” Kara remarked with amusement, as she scratched behind Sheera’s ears, noting that the cougar, who was normally very standoffish around other people, had settled between them.
“Only one?” Coran teased, as he reached out to tenderly stroke her cheek, which blushed in response.
“Well… maybe two,” she cooed with a coy smile.
Climbing to their feet, they hefted their gear and readied themselves to continue their travels. Then Kara took up her wicked looking spear, holding it by the mid-point balanced in her gloved right hand and it suddenly vanished, drawing a curious look from Coran, to which she sniped; “What… you thought you were the only one with a trick… or two… up your sleeve?”
“I guess not,” he mused, ideally wondering what other ‘tricks’ she might have in store, since she had already sprung a few quite delightful surprises on him.
