Great shot! We have several robin nests in the trees here. The last storm caused them a lot of trouble with babies falling out of the nests. Two were newly hatched and too small to help. One was small but determined. His mom is spending her time feeding him and the ones still in the nest. Ray checks on him every time he goes outside. We had to move him to finish mowing today. While mowing I found one just a little bit older but still not ready to be out of the nest in the front yard. I had to put him in the fence row to keep him from hopping back into my path. The moms are trying their best so maybe they will survive. Glad to hear your nephew is improving.

Great shot my friend. I have several cats and they all know better than to chase birds. I have a bird feeder and bird bath in my yard for the huge assortment of birds in my area. With so many birds feeding together it's impossible to sneak up on any one of them.

Well, this Robin is certainly giving you the hairy eyeball :) Great capture. Folks with cats shouldn't allow them to roam freely during the spring/early summer. Been out of the loop so I didn't know your grand nephew was ill, but I'm glad to know he's on the mend.

Marvelous colors, detail and lighting effects in this shot. Robin Redbreast certainly has her head cocked in your direction as you were recording her nesting activities. And glad that your great nephew is improving after his harrowing experience.

oh yes, Rod, you got the robin in a real song posture: body to our right, its head up, and to the left. Birds bob all over the place when they sing (I studied bird song as part of my musical studies, and we actually notated them in music notation, and studied them...it was glorious). You got it mid warble. I know that bird captures aren't easy---do you remember Bill's series of birds when he was living in KS? You knew him then, right? (If not, I'll try to find some links.) He spent weeks positioning his camera, and studying and photographing. I love to see it in your gallery. The background is a peacefl wash of greens and beiges, and everything leads to that beautiful robin singing away. Lovely shot, Rod. It's so nice that he made that his home, and you took the trouble to capture him.

(We learned that birds have several types of song; and one of the most common is to attract female birds. After studying a while, it struck me that these gorgeous warbling songs were bird-speak for "heyyyyy, babe---let's get it on..." No joke there---they're struttin' their stuff, letting everyone know they're 'males'. And I said to my teacher, "does it bother you that these birds are doing a "you talkin' to me?", like some street dude in tight pants and polyester shirt, saying "heyyyyyyyyy!", while making such glorious music? And I'll never forget his response: "At least they put it into song, rather than into violence and intrusion." That put an end to our questions. It's still the males who sing, mostly, so I guess you could say birds need to equalize things...but we have a lot to learn from birds about human behavior...) (and those songs are remarkably complex---they have special vocal chords which allow them to split pitches very rapidly; that's how they get those fast warbles. Listen to any robin song on the web, you'll hear the super-fast warble.)

And Rod, I'm very happy Joshua is getting better, and is out of the ICU. There's a certain poetry to the fact that his hospital is a place you fixed printers for several years. Maybe all your efforts will fall onto him, and help him heal faster...
