Description
It was three days ago, that I had almost the whole day this giant Hornet, a queen, bivaked on my upper leg, under my jeans without knowing it.
Such a stooped thing:
In the morning I had pruned branches above in the garden, after that I went to cook and bake, and when I finally went out again,
I felt something on my thigh, under my jeans.
I tried to moved it downwards, so I could look what it was, I thought I maybe had a hole in my pocket and something was fallen out of it.
I did not manage to move that "thing" so I was going to roll my pants upwards.
Then I saw a piece of head, and two horns of an insect, and I tried to pull the horns down, which did not work.
Then I was shaking my jeans, I thought, "so, now it's out".
Karel was still up in the garden, and I walked at him to tell I have had an "idiot" LOL in my pants.
But when I told where that animal had been, I still felt it.
I immediately pulled out my pants, turned him inside out, and saw the beast still sitting there.
Incredibly, what a big one, I was stunned, and could hardly believe she had not stabbed me, I still don't understand.
Well, it was worth this macro shot ;-)

I thought to myself, "What a unique and unusual experience!" It occurred to me to look up hornets to see what the "spirit totem" people say about it. There's so much useless babble out there, I thought maybe I could find something interesting. One of them talks about fertility issues, but unless you're planning on becoming pregnant, I'm sure that's not it! :P Another said that whatever is troubling you now, next year it will be largely resolved. "You are going through a period of tangled emotions and mood swings -- try to stay calm and centered." So there you have it. Of all the blah-blah-babble out there, I actually found something that might be helpful! LOL!

Oh, MY! Gives me the creeps! But apparently soft skin (yours) under a hard surface (jeans) meant it didn't get too squashed or anxious to sting. But what a scary experience! Glad you got rid of it. Nice photo of the frightening critter!

it might be a fly mimic and they do not bite, but still look very intimidating. great macro
well maybe this hornet sensed your deep and positive energy, and it didn't want to harm you. The ancient Hindus might say that the hornet was a reincarnation of someone who you helped in a previous life; so when it was about to sting you, it suddenly realized who you were, and it left you alone, out of gratitude. Then, it might just be that the hornet wasn't threatened by you, so it had no need to hurt you. In any case, I'd have freaked out, lol; and it's great that you got such a stunning photograph. The detail is stunning, and the colors and bands on its body are stunning as well. An amazing macro of that 'bastard beast'. And amazing story.
