Description
This 25-foot high bronze statue, weighing 15,000 pounds, is representing the famous moment at the end of World War II when a sailor kissed an unknown woman in Times Square, New York, NY while celebrating V-J Day on 14 August 1945. At the time I took this picture the statue was on display at the Port of San Diego, next to the USS Midway Museum.
In the distance is Point Loma and the Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters are taking off from the North Island NAS.
This picture was taken on 12 February 2010, Sig...

Cool !
Little did that guy know at the time how he would be remembered.
Great POV of this iconic statue. It almost looks like a close-up of a normal-sized couple. Great capture!
Perfect timing. The helicopters in the background make really make this a fantastic shot.
Now this is a shot worth waiting for! Anchors away!
I had no idea it was so big! Great picture!
Interestingly, the only identifiable person associated with the original Times Square picture is Alfred Eisenstaedt, the photographer. At least five women and eight men have claimed to be the subjects. It is generally agreed that the woman was a nurse, explaining her white attire.
@contedesfees! Yes, you are right!
