Description
This 'Teich' (pond) in the Steinbergpark, is less than 1/2 mile from where I lived when I grew up. It was in this pond, where I first swam, underwater, holding my breath, because I couldn't really swim yet, it was on this pond where I learned to ice skate, and it was in this pond, while walking through the murky, shallow water that a crawfish clamped onto the top of one of my feet, it was painful and my foot swelled up.
Later, in the early 1950's, when times got better, West-Berlin began to re-stock their lakes and ponds with water fowl again. The water fowl (ducks, geese, swan, coots) had disappeared during WW II and were supplementing the Berliners diet.
We used to watch the swan getting ready for flight. They paddled majestically to one end of the pond and began their take-off (similar to a heavy bomber) and they always made it between a gap in the surrounding trees. And if we were lucky, watched them come back, circle the pond once, and then land, again similar to heavy bombers.
I this picture I went for a walk with my mother, and she commented of the beautiful colors of the fall leaves, but according to my brother, some of the colors came from damage by acid rain..
This picture was taken in October 1988 and is scanned, Sig...

Beautiful shot and fascinating text, Sig. Those crawfish will get you every time! haha I remember wading with friends waist-deep up a Nevada river as a kid and feeling the crawfish (or crawdads) squirming away beneath my feet in the muddy river bottom. When we were lucky, nobody got pegged!
This is a beautiful shot.
