Isn't it astonishing what water---simple, shapeless water---can do? It's just stunning. One little period of rain, and you are sunken in repair, replace, tedious removal, painstaking study of every square inch, cleaning, more removal, more planning, and so on. It reveals every imperfection a place has to offer; and you must've felt---1000 times---"how in hell will I ever finish this?" Well, you're remarkably good at these things, so maybe it didn't overwhelm you that much, but you had to look at it and think: "That's it: we're moving". You probably wanted to roll the whole basement into a ball, stuff it in a trash bag, and toss it out the window, and snort, "f__k it!"

One flood victim I knew said, while talking under a pile of plaster-to-be-thrown out: "Water's good, right? I mean we need it to live, right? Right??? Someone tell me I'm wrong here..." And boy, when you decided to retire, the fates decided "notttttt so easy, jack..." You've had operations, recoveries, all that work-related agita before, all the computer changes, and now this. (If I'm leaving anything out, remind me.) (You couldn't just get a watch and leave???) You should get an Academy Award for all you've been through. I've not had floods, but I've had to re-build a place, and man, I recognize those pictures of yours. I wish you all the speed you can get, and as little stress as possible (too late for that, I realize) in getting back to normal. At least you'll have a completely refurbished basement when you retire. All the best, Rod. It'll be like plopping into bed after working 40 hours straight: You'll just plop down and say, "we're done!!!!!" I wish you all the best with this. You deserve it.

Oh, man.... you ARE making progress. But it seems slow until you're finally finished. But, I don't see the most important item - the potty! Are you doing a Summer job (Kitty's on the potty, Summer's on the pail, if you remember that post). Or, you use the pail and then "water" the flowers with it.... oops, did I say water? Don't want THAT back inside! Especially the fertilizer type! I wonder how long this work has taken, thus far. I admire your tenacity! And close to retirement. Hope you have an economy so you survive if hit by more flying shit (my worry now is about that German war goddess Irma who is reputed to soon attack the USA!). LOL - No, the new potty is in the garage awaiting it's turn to be installed after the tile goes down. Not sure how I'm gonna get it down the stairs.... that thing is heavy!

even with the former damage from the flooding, you still have a cool "man cave". I do not envy you laying the tiles. my knees would not hold up for it being on the floor that long. I have carpet only left in one closet and tomorrow I will buy laminated flooring to get rid of the carpet. I would like to replaced the parquet flooring in the main living/dining room. I am resisting because of all the labor involved in taking up the old floor. I may rent a machine for removing tiles/glued floring

OMG! And here I was so proud, I assembled two Industrial shelves... with a little help. Now I look at this and get exhausted just looking at it. My knees would sue me, no I would sue me, if I had to lie down on them doing what you did. One square meter, and I would never ever get up again. Don´t even dare imagine how this must have been, but you have until now done a heck of a great job. Keep up the good work but take it easy. You should last long time after you get retired :)
