It's funny how my projects evolve. When creating Nightjars (a type of nocturnal birds), I needed a food source to show off their immense funnel-like mouths. Of course, moths came to mind... and thus my 'Moths of the World' projects was born. I had numerous birds that liked to eat lizards but there was no decent "ordinary" 3D lizard to be found, hence my 'Lizards of the World' projects. My lizard looked great BUT there was no decent scenery that could hold up to close-up camera angles, hence my Habitat sets. My Herons seemed to enjoy my Big Cypress Habitat BUT the only frog to eat was created in the last century, so my frog sets leaped onto my 'runtime'. I now need some ants to feed my poison dart frogs so now I'm working on an ant project... ugh, I guess I'll be creating aphids next to feed the ants lol In any case, I plan to recreate the 12 major ant 'types' in this project. The first of these is the Army Ant: There are over 200 species of Army ant, most found within the Ecitoninae sp. They can be found in the tropics and subtropics of Brazil, Peru and Mexico. They rest in temporary nests made entirely of ants, also known as a ‘bivouac‘. The queen ant and her brood stay safe in the center of the mass of ants. The colony moves at night to its next location which could be up to 600 feet (183 m) away at speeds of 60 feet per hour (18.3 meters per hour). At the start of the day, scouts fan out from the 'bivouac' in search of food. Once prey is found they summon the colony (150,000 to 2 million ants) and they aggressively attack. Ant experts have one word of advice when accoutering army ants.... "Run!" Army ants are highly aggressive, and have a very strong bite. Their scissor-like mandibles can cut through human flesh.
