Description
Lake Te Anau was gouged out by a huge glacier. It is 53 km long, 10 km across at its widest point and it is 417 m at its deepest. It is the second largest lake in New Zealand. It is named after the caves discovered on its western shore (The Cave of Rushing Water). Sightseeing flights and boat tours can be arranged.
The lake is part of the Fjordland National Park, part of Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. Southland, South Island, New Zealand.
