How many times do you think they modified this wall for different purposes?
It's been hard for me to be on the computer lately, because I need new glasses. I know that's a relatively simple thing, but I've been struggling with trifocals for years, and it's gotten much worse as time has gone by. I saw a new optometrist last week, and he gave me a prescription for walking-around bifocals and another one for computer bifocals. I'm really looking forward to being able to see my computer clearly again! Right now, everything is just a bit on the blurry side, and it makes me not want to sit here. I can barely focus on print, so by the time I've sat here for half an hour, I'm done. The good news is that otherwise, there's nothing weird going on with my eyes! The operation I had two years ago was a terrific help, and the long-term outcome has been very positive. If these new glasses work the way I hope they will, I'll probably be on RR more often. I hope. Keep your fingers crossed for me! :)

Fascinating old brick wall. Love the patterns and different colors of brick used over time. Your write-up got me thinking.
When you have a wall around for a hundred year span in a working mill...requirements must have changed at least every 25 or 30 years. Since the mills closed years ago (62 years ago in 1955), I'm sure we won't be seeing any future changes if/when we visit Sanford again:)
No problems with cataracts? Is Lasik an option. I was part of the bi-focal crowd until I had Lasik in 2000. Much improved.
Obviously I'm not the only one wishing you all success in finding a solution. Pretty interesting history in that wall.
I love old brick. Again, you have the light spot on. You gotta wonder what change have happened over the years.

WOW! A fun wall. Well spotted and photographed, Tara. I am so sorry you have some problems with the eyes. Sooo annoying. I cross fingers, toes and knees... and eyes.. for you to find the best solution to see clear. I have an appointment this wednesday, because of the left eye :/

hope new glasses help. i'm sitting her with my glasses halfway down my noise to see the screen,. just went to the eye doc and forgot to ask about computer glasses----duh!!

Tara this is fantastic.. I love the color and detail in the wall and the blinds, but I am not surprised, after all I have seen you in action. As to your eyes, mine are getting bad too. Last December I went to the optometrist and it was discovered that I am beginning to get a cataract in one eye and the assumption was that I would get corrective surgery sometime in spring. After all it doesn't take long and is just about fool-proof. but things came up and I put it on hold, but since I have back from my trip it is on the schedule again..
This type of brick-wall would also be something Nikolais have a lot of fun with... [in a good way of course, with his paintbox program] - or the way a graffiti artist would get exited about it - 'nuff said !
I like it as also and would, if I could 'modify' it, because of learning about other filters, which is quite different and also creative art... [whether somebody will like it or not, that's another question]

another study of the non-glamorous side of architecture, with the overlay of several ages of wall-dom, all communing with each other, comfortably and non-comfortably. Actually, there's a certain peace in shots like this, in that everything's learned to 'get along' after so long, and the hodge podge of shapes kind of melds into a single identity. As you know, I lived in N. England, and saw facades like this all the time; and saw the changes in purpose, patterns, regulations (ala Bill's comment), etc that accrue over time, too. I love the off-center composition here, the way the 'grill' is to our right. And the sun-bleached reddish bricks. And the starkness of the metal attachments on the wall. And the stark relief of the weeds and bushes against the wall---with strong shadows. It's a real piece of "street poetry," of architectural street gang stuff---these dudes are in a gang who probably goes at the neighboring gang late at night; but, in the stark bleached light of day, it just sits still for pictures. This is part of what I meant by "ornery," when referring to northern New England. A wonderful, very expressive shot, with all the perfect intuitions. I could look at shots like this all day. You know just how to find them, and to present them to us as works of art.
